I love the beach in winter. I always need a hat in summer and I find the high strong sunshine makes me squint. I love the wildness of the water during storms and I love feeling how big and wide everything is with an empty beach.
Most of all, I love the way the light just bounces around softly from the water and sand and giving gorgeously flattering portraits. Just scroll down and look at this adorable little face.
Winter light means that we don’t need to compromise on finding a time with beautiful natural light and the natural eating and sleeping schedules of small people. It’s gentle and welcoming almost all the time.
Bournemouth Beach Family Photography
With the big fleeces & knitted hats, it didn’t feel right to share this session in the middle of summer but it feels like the right time now.
Like a lot of my clients, the beach was such an important location for this family. When they first moved down, they spent long days almost every weekend digging and playing on the beach in all seasons. It was the obvious place for us to hold their session. Sometimes it feels like the landscape becomes a character in your family’s story.
With spades, windmills and diggers, we raced over the empty beaches and dug channels.
And once we’d exhausted ourselves climbing rocks and running, there’s nothing nicer than standing and watching the sea break before you, except watching it with someone special.
I’d love to photograph your family in the soft buttery winter light. Summer is so busy and such a long way off. There’s no need to wait, especially with the blessing of Dorset’s great climate.
