The summer term is ending soon and I know a lot of us are thinking about the changes the next school year might bring. I really wanted to capture some of the contradictions at the age of changing schools and the developing personalities as they change from childhood to teen and into adulthood. Over the coming weeks I’ll be sharing my portraits from my At 6s & 7s project, working with those in Year 6 & 7, either side of the school change.
For the one, I’d like to introduce Issac. He’s excited about his future, moving forward, ever learning. Weekends are football, shooting hoops on the basketball court and just hanging out at the beach with his mum or his friends.
It was only natural that we started his portrait session on the basketball court. He loves being captured in action, displaying his skills in one of his favourite spots.
This one was his favourite, and one of mine. The ball fitting into his hand magnetically as he focuses on the moments ahead. We’ve printed this as a canvas for his bedroom.
The Hat Portrait
When we were planning his session, it was clear that he had some definite ideas about how he wanted to be photographed. He wanted to wear the hat that he wears everywhere this year so we took a walk up to the bridge and through the gardens as we made our way from the basketball court to the beach. It’s a pretty awesome hat, I must say.
His mum loved this image. Relaxed, content and smiling in the place where they spend their weekends. It’s exactly what I want to capture for you. This one is for the wall in the family space.
Bournemouth beach portraits
Of course, being a sunny Saturday, we had to take a walk down to Boscombe pier to skim some stones on the beach and climb a few boulders.
The family portrait
They’re a tight unit, Issac and his mum. There’s an ease and quiet note of companionship when they’re together. I love how this image shows how well they fit together.
If you’d like me to capture your family in your favourite spot, we can go for a coffee and talk about what makes your children and your family who they are today, whether it’s a hat, a sport or purely the relationships you have with each other.
Give me a call on 07989 194 574, email me on [email protected] or leave me your details below and we’ll start planning your session. As with all my sessions, I’ll also bring samples of my printed work so you can also think about what they’ll look like when they’re finished and on your walls.
