Autumn Woods: a toddler’s view

I can’t keep away from the woods at this time of year.  I love the way it opens up for you and invites you in.  In a couple of minutes, you can follow the path, turn the corner and find yourself immersed in a world with crunchy leaves, sticks that snap underfoot and a twittering all around.

It’s brilliant for toddlers too. There’s so much to run through, to climb on, to pick up and examine.

Meet Felix.  Again.  He’s the beautiful babe in lavender from last year when he was just learning about sitting.

When his mum got back in touch to ask for a new session, I knew that Stanmore Woods were going to be the best place for us this time. A year on and it’s clear that sitting is so last year.  He’s all about exploration, running at full tilt and leaving us behind.  Also sticks. Because who doesn’t love a good stick?

After a bit (ok a lot) of coaxing and treats, he agreed to a little sitting on a log. Briefly.  Very briefly. And then he climbed it.

All this activity is pretty tiring stuff when you’ve got little legs though so we strolled along the path back down the hill.  We had time to take things a little bit slower and Felix was finished with running and chasing so we took a moment to get some portraits in of this gorgeous chap smiling and laughing.

I’m so glad I got the chance to hang out with him again. It’s so great seeing the changes in children as they grow up and it’s pretty much the main reason I do what I do. I want to capture a little of the spirit of your child at the age they are now, before the edges are worn off and they’re distilled down into the core of who they will be.  You can’t quite tell exactly at the time, but it becomes so clear when you go back to the photographs in later years.

I’m still booking my Autumn sessions for another few weeks (we kept going until November last year), so if you’d like your  toddler to be photographed kicking leaves and playing in the woods, get in touch through heredrop me an email to [email protected] or call me on 07989 194 574 and we can talk about the session that would suit you best.
